December 17, 2008

The little Prince (Le Petit Prince) – a classic children’s story first published in 1943 is known throughout the world, and has been translated into more than 180 languages. Hampstead Theatre is currently staging Anthony Clark’s musical adaptation of this magical tail.

The World’s Most Popular Children’s Story

The classic story, which is frequently referred to as the most popular childrens story of all time, is actually the third most printed book in the world after (the bible and gone with the wind being the other two). The tail follows a pilot who crashes in the Sahara Desert and befriends a mysterious boy. The two become friends, and the little prince entertains the pilot with stories of his journey to Earth, and all the characters he met along the way.

Anthony Clark is said to be passionate about children’s theatre, and has won a TMA for “Best Show for Young People” – for the ’97 adaptation of The Red balloon by Albert Lamorisse (Shown at the National Theatre).

Since that time, Mr. Clark has directed, written or adapted over 13 other children’s productions, from The Snowman to Pinocchio.

Currently Anthony Clark is the Artistic Director of Hampstead Theatre.
