March 9, 2009

Menier Chocolat Factory will see the return of Terry Johnson, famed for winning the best musical revival at the Laurence Olivier Awards. Mr. Johnson will be directing the farce Rookery Nook, by Ben Travers, from 16th April until the 20th June 2009.

Rookery Nook is best around a newlywed playboy called Gerald Popkiss. Mr. Popkiss is en-route to Rookery Nook with his new wife and mother in law. Unfortunately for Me. Popkiss however, the in-law is taken ill, and he has to travel alone. Upon arrival, matters get far from less complicated! A yound girl who has been cast out of the home next door pleads for sanctuary, and as she is wearing nothing except for her pyjamas, Mr. Popkiss has to keep her hidden until he finds her some clothes, at least! The ever present maid, Mrs. Leverett has a keen eye and sharp mind, making matters harder!

This is not Terry’s first time directing at the Menier Chocolate Factory, in 2007 he directed ‘La Cage Aux Folles’, before it saw a transfer to the Playhouse. La Cage recieved nominations for a total of 7 LO Awards.

Prior to the launch of Rookery Nook, the Menier Chocolate Factory will be home to Phil Nichol and Charlse Fleischer.
