Marilyn set for the Apollo theatrical stage - Marilyn Monroe Musical - London.

February 4, 2009

A new musical to celebrate the iconic ‘Blonde Bombshell’ Marilyn Monroe is to hit the Apollo Theatre in June 2009.

The show will be limited to 11 performances, from 3rd June to 13 June, and will be choreographed by Peter Schaufuss, a Laurence Olivier Award winner.

British ballerine Zara Deakin will play the lead role of Marilyn Monroe. The performance starts with Marilyn’s childhood years, and takes us through a journey of her life, including having a schizophrenic mother, and her high profile affairs of the heart.

Mr. Schaufuss starte his own theatre company in ‘97, after a career as an international ballet star in the ’70s and 80’s, and then being the Artistic Director of the London Festival Ballet (English National Ballet these days!) and Deutsch Oper Berlin.

The most recent of Schaufuss’s work was Divas, in 2008, a show that was inspired by Edith Piaf, Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich.

For Zara Deakin, this is the third appearance in the West End Theatre world, however with a classical training at the Royal Ballet School, and a background with the English National Ballet and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Zara is more than used to life on the stage

In total there will be 15 dancers taking part in the exceedingly short run of Mariylin, along with songs from Monroe’s films.
