Laugh at Spamalot - in Broadway Theatres - USA.

February 26, 2009

One of the biggest hits, despite the unlikelihood of it being so, is Spamalot. The show is based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, a film from 1975. Eric Idle, an original Python, adapted the hit after writing the book. The music was co-written with John Du Prez.

The original Pythons completely support the show and many attended the opening night of the show. Additionally the voice of God is played by John Cleese, an original Python.

The budget of the show was reported to be in the neighborhood of $11 million, however advance ticket sales already total more than $25 million. The show is hysterical and because of this the tickets are flying out of the ticket office as fast as they go on sale.

Spamalot definitely has an English spin and many other plays on Broadway do as well. This includes London’s own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in addition to classics from America like Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf , The Glass Menagerie, and A Streetcar Named Desire.

The English influence on these shows is obvious, which is quite flattering in so many Broadway hits. All of these shows are worth checking out, and Spamalot is certainly a riot that will keep you laughing to the point you don’t know what you are laughing about.
