The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, was the host of star studded show as a fund raiser to help with the re-development, forecast to be costing over £25million.
John Altman and Sean Williamson - former Eastenders stars, along with other stage and Television actors starred in the Gala performance.
Of the £25.6million needed for the repairs, only £20million has been guaranteed up to now, but the chairman of the campaign, Peter Williams, seems very sure of raising the final £.6million.
“So far the money has come in from local authorities, from our supporters, the major trusts, and now we’re going to say to the general public ‘be a star’, and by that we mean every single person in Kent can be a star by helping us with this production.
“They can organise coffee mornings, they can organise quizzes, they can organise almost anything.”
Mr. Williams also believes that the theatre has around ten thousand ‘friends’, which he claims is the biggest group of ‘friends’ of any theatre house, which should make raising the extra funds easier.
